One of the most gratifying benefits of working in the wine industry is meeting many wine lovers from different walks of life bonded by the love for wine. It is extra special when you meet someone who wants to take their passion to a different level driven by their desire for knowledge. When asked by a music lover to create an interesting and different wine tasting evening, I was intrigued by the challenge of infusing music and wine in a wine event. The private kitchen hosting the event had a baby grand piano, perfect for a few of our musically inclined guests if they feel the urge to perform!
Apart from working on the food and wine pairing with the chefs, I chose music pieces which in my view best showcase the emotions conveyed by the wines. Chopin’s Minute waltz had always reminded me of the refreshing, almost electrifying effect of drinking a zingy, acidic Chablis on a hot summer day… to me, it is the wine version of a G & T!
We all had a lot fun, guests swapped and changed from playing music on their iPhones to our more musically inclined guests playing the piano and having a live karaoke session, no doubt liquid courage played a major part as we approached the wee hours of the night!
