Bernice Cheng

Founder of xBorder Wines

Bernice founded xBorder Wines, based in Beijing and Hong Kong which focuses on the education and celebration of food and wines. Over the last 3 years Bernice had curated food and wine pairings for private gatherings to board dinners; as a WSET Certified Educator she has provided wine education to businesses, students and wine lovers. She had also advised local & foreign investors and businesses on operational, inbound and outbound investments in the wine business, she is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

Bernice is a WSET Level 4 Diploma holder with Merit and was awarded a scholarship by Concha y Toro, one of the top 5 most admirable wine brands in the world. She was captain of the team which took 1st place in the 2016 Hong Kong International Top Tasters Competition. Bernice is one of a handful of Certified Sommeliers through the Court of Master Sommeliers based in China. She attained the highest mark in the Introductory Sommelier exam and was on the Dean's List in the Intensive Sommelier Program in The ICC, Northern California. As a French Wine Scholar (Highest Hons.), she is accredited by the French Government to teach French wines. She is an Italian Wine Ambassador accredited with VinItaly International Academy and holds a Diploma with the Vintage Port Academy. Bernice is also a Certified Coffee Master with Starbucks Corporation. As a food lover, she is a graduate of the Leith’s Cooking School, London and a graduate of cooking schools in Loire Valley and Brittany in France, Bangkok and Chengdu.

Prior to catching the wine bug, Bernice was a corporate finance lawyer for 17+ years, qualified in Hong Kong and England & Wales. She started her career with international law firms Slaughter and May and Freshfields based in London and Hong Kong. Followed by various leadership positions in General Electric Corporation and Starbucks Corporation based in Hong Kong, Mainland China and the U.S..
